Gary Kirsten to hold specialist training camp for RCA teams

RCA president Lalit Modi hails arrival of iconic coach for historic camp

Jaipur - Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) on Tuesday announced the details of the first-ever specialist training camp to be held under iconic coach Gary Kirsten.

Kirsten, India’s 2011 World Cup wining coach, will be arriving in Jaipur for a ten-day camp from 5-15 September to train Rajasthan’s young cricketers at the first of its kind High Performance clinic at the RCA Academy.

RCA president Lalit Modi’s vision for cricket in the state includes the four Ps-Promote, Practice, Preach and Progress. Kirsten’s Elemental Management Group (EMG) has been appointed to achieve this grand objective.

“Gary is known to be the Guru of precision, planning and training. Who better to achieve the goals and mantras of RCA than Gary. I want to complement the entire RCA administration and playing team for helping in choosing Gary as the man to take our vision forward. Together we will achieve the dream of becoming the best state side in the country,” said RCA president Lalit Modi.

RCA secretary Sumendra Tiwary too hailed the appointment of Kirsten. “RCA’s vision for a successful cricket team is a long-term objective. We therefore need inputs from various cricketing brains. The arrival of Gary will help us walk towards our ultimate goal.”

On his part, Kirsten was excited to roll out his methodology in making RCA Academy a world-class High Performance Centre. “We at ESM have always been keen to marry vision with dream. I am glad that the president of RCA’s thoughts is aligned with our own goals. Together we can create a world class product for future generations of Rajasthan.”

Kirsten will be arriving with his team of coaches also including Ryan Cook and Ryan van Niekerk. The camp is expected to fine tune the state team’s preparations for the upcoming domestic season. The clinic will involve a training module that includes nets, middlepractices apart from strength and conditioning programmes and special personal leadership session with Guru Gary himself.

Kirsten’s work will involve inculcating in the players value of building a winning culture, managing team dynamics, optimising individual talent, creating informal team leadership, unlocking team potential and managing risk in a changing environment.

Kirsten is not the first international coach to ply his skills at the RCA Academy. Another former Indian head coach and former Australian captain Greg Chappell has also been a visiting faculty at the Academy. Ex-South African paceman Meyrick Pringle has also spent time with the Ranji Trophy side of Rajasthan as bowling coach. During Pringle’s years as bowling coach a number of talented fast bowlers came through the system.

Gary Kirsten is a former South African opener. He was the coach of India's 2011 World Cup winning side. He was India's coach from 2008-2011. He was appointed as the coach of the South African cricket team in June 2011 and he stepped down in August 2013. Kirsten featured in 101 Tests and 185 ODIs for South Africa from 1993-2004. His half brother Peter, also played for South Africa.

About RCA Academy
Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) president Lalit Modi created world class infrastructure in Jaipur. Apart from refurbishing the Sawai Mansingh Stadium (SMS), under his leadership RCA established an Academy in 2005. The academy now houses the finest indoor nets facility in the country. There are 27 practice pitches at the Academy. The Academy has a four-star residential facility with 27 rooms.
